Over the last crossing I spent some time experimenting with my camera and some of its functions. During one of my watches I set up this time-lapse, and now you can see what it's like to be on watch from 4 am to 8 am while crossing from Thailand to Sri Lanka! Not a lot really happens as you might guess. If you look closely you can see that while trying to maintain a solid heading of due west I: fiddle with my iPod, have a snack or two, the sun rises, and that’s about it for four hours!
The video looks pretty dark at first but that’s only because my camera isn’t able to pick up the moonlight. For the crossing we had nearly a full moon every night and it was easy to see without a flashlight.
